This week is close to being in the books and a few good things happened…although there is still the little loneliness factor. But let’s get to the good news.
For one the kidney functions are trending downward based on last week’s tests. Now for some of you this may not be a big deal, but when the numbers but as I mentioned to my dear friend, this will at the very least keep me from going on dialysis. Without really getting technical here, these numbers mean that I still have what can best be called primary stage kidney failure. There are five of them and anything from level 3 on means either getting assistance in getting the functions working or…..well let’s not go there shall we? But this news makes the pending trip to yon friendly neighborhood nephrologist a little bit easier to deal with in full. Plus, hey he was referred by my man Dr. Nick so this guy HAS to be good *S*
On the same day that I got this news, yours truly engaged in one of her other passions…which is talking about transit issues. I know, there are some who know me and will ask ‘why not gender or race issues?” Well for one, mass transit in some way shape and/or form affects each of us no matter what the stripe. Be its use for to get to employment, to school, to the market, to the doctor or to any of the local entertainment venues…it is omnipresent. Secondly, the management of our local system – Tri-Met is in the process of making cuts to the busses and light rail in this area. But that is not supposed to happen right????After all, the new adminstration launched a major stimulus package which was and is supposed to in part to keep the transit system here in the US running, to make improvements, to keep people working.
WRONG…as us denizens of this burg found out when we were at a public hearing on Tuesday night. Even though each one of us brought the passion and their ‘A’ game to meeting, it was apprent from reading the faces of those from Tri-Met management that the cuts will go through no matter what. And in speaking off the record aftewards to some of the resident talking heads, the overall gist was that even the federal funding that came from previous programs like ISTEA [Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act] have been exhausted and that our lovely representatives in Congress gave us us the short shrift in aiding this region in getting the money we need [in addition to those funds garnered from such things as fares and taxes] to keep this part of our lifeblood in working fashion. It is a shame that this is happening, considering that our system was partially designed by the godfather of transit planners, Tom Matoff [google his name and mine in the same sentence and you will see that I did some work with him in Seattle years ago] to be a model of what ISTEA can do on a small scale [Seattle was going to be a larger version of this concept].
So the rest of the week was spent dealing with other wonderful things like the landlord [a lovely man who is like a dad to me….and I really want to be on his good side], chatrooms, letters to my sweetie and playing around with the cats. The daily chats over at Rick Sanchez’s [or as I call him: ‘Fearless Leader’] site are part of what I look forward to. I know we will not save the world, quell disputes or even get Fox to extend ‘HOUSE’ for one more season, but like those trips to the market, these folks help me to feel a little more alive. I get along with most in this bunch; young, old race non important as is gender…it is just that one little respite from the other crap that goes on in the day. Now if only Rick was on for 2 hours a day, we would all be happy.
There is something else that makes me a little happier in that there is something in the appearance that is now becoming more well…..logical. No need to get into the mechanics behind this, but let’s say after all this time…there is now a look that just says….yeah this one is normal LOL. Even with the different contact lenses. This is part of what could best be considered not just a self improvement plan [no, not like the ‘Twilight Zone’ script called ‘The Self Improvement of Salvadore Ross’], but as a way of saying to my friend ‘ this is who is waiting and who will always be faithful no matter what’. It is what friends do…at least the old fashioned version of that, which I subscribe to.
Well that is it for now…..there are going to be more pics up like the one to the left. Last set for a while, if due to the fact there is only so much one can do so to speak..although this does show in some way there is a little more of a relaxed attitude of sorts, all things considered. Even a smile…those who know me understand and know why. And for the one who really knows why…it is just a preview.
