Well it is that time of the month…..well meaning that time of the next couple weeks….and yes I am happy. Not just because a certain someone made a new post [and there are a lot of things we agree on *S* Great minds do think alike…although some may see me as greatly weird], but because as I type this….Gonzaga has won it’s first game in the tourney. Yes it is on to the round of 32…halfway to the Sweet 16. This is the good news…..then again on this coming Sat they play those lovely folks from BYU. Ok….so it is just another bump in the road the 8. Which is where the trip normally ends. But gee whiz, this is going to be oh such fun to get there.
Which in its own way I will credit to that thing known as a full moon. A buddy of mine had mentioned that this is the closest the earth will be to the Sea of Tranquility and friends in a couple decades. Not that things will be as bad as was mentioned in the last movie version of ‘The Time Machine’…but there are some predictions out there about things getting as bad in other places as it is in Japan right now [Sidebar-Folks if you know anyone over there, then by all means…contact them, make sure they are ok….not just a part of the social contract, which some forget….it is just plain the right thing to do]. So while this is an astronomer’s, a cosmologist’s dream and something NASA would have sold their collective souls for when the Apollo program was running, it may also be the harbinger of something which may make some of us think in terms of a title of an old sci-fi book from the 1950’s….
‘Lest Darkness Blessedly Fell’
So where the heck were we? Oh yes….the fact that ‘Zaga won and that post from the friend…..yeah….that made the evening….which makes up for the fact that it was raining….again…and is now clearing up, just in time for evening. Typical of Portland, the ‘keep it weird’ capital of the US. This even though we had some levels of sunshine today to the point where Rachel wanted to get a tan in the window. Yes dear readers…..cats like sitting in the sun….and my two are no different. Then again, in some corners mentioning that TheRoyalBadnesses want to get a tan can bring out the boo-birds and those who are of the policially correct bent. Which is something the cats and myself really do not give a rat’s snotball about.
Speaking of terms…..and this is just a public concurance with my dear friend…the secondary meaning of the word ‘tranny’ is something I get ticked over. If only because the connotation brings about this image of people who are hanging out by east Canal Street or by the bus terminal in Manhattan [NYC] or any other questionable portion of any major city dressed in outfits that would best be found in really bad adult movies with implants that contain enough silicone to caulk the Empire State Building. What tends to be worse about this is that there are those who embrace that like some tend to choose the ‘N’ word as being a badge of honor. Which is not the case with either…you would be amazed at how many are in denial of that.
Ok we got off the happy train there…..before I close this one out….here is a little video that has appeared over on Myspace in my account there, but I thought it would make sense to bring this over here…..and a little story behind it: The person who wrote the lyrics for this and is on vocals is Betty Thatcher. If the name sounds familiar….it is because she is the person whose lyrics were the basis of the songs during the heyday [yes another old word….who said the net is not educational *S*] of Renaissance. They…along with the music of the Moody Blues, Yes, ELP and jazz from the folks over on the CTI label…among others helped me keep my sanity all those years ago and still do so to this day. The Ren material is what a lot of those folks are hearing when I am whistling to it while shopping at the Freddy Kroger, Tar-jay and when I am on the Springer, I mean the 72 or the MAX Lightrail in town. Betty and I have struck up a friendship over the net….and yes she is an honorary aunt to my cats *S*. I had mentioned to her what was going on….who I am smitten with….and what the situation was. One thing led to another and….
this was the end result. There is a lot to be said about having a friend who can put into better words what you are feeling and thinking, even though y’all are a few thousand miles away. Not to forget the fact that she sees in this what my cats do.
Well that is it…the sports, weather, news, thoughts for the day and a loving thought for a friend from this desk. And in the words of a graduate of Marquette [yes they are in the dance v. Xavier of Ohio]…from the land of the colortini….enjoy the music and pics as the words fly through the air.
