Ok, perhaps radical is a little too strong a term for what happened. But with that being the adjective-based preamble…let me mention that the client and I had a meeting which was a good one. Actually better than to be expected.
For one I do need to mention that the trips down here by the client have a double purpose. One of which is to discuss work, progress on same and jaw what ideas can be applied to same, the other reason is tax evasion, I mean shopping on the client’s part because, well Washington state has sales tax. Hence the client and partner shop here like my cats rifle through a plate of catnip, meaning they are highly efficient with it. But it was after that we got to the meat of the issue….
What came out of this was not only an agreement on several important issues, such as who eventually would be hosting this, price dependent….where the pictures for the products would be stored online so that there are no problems with crossposting [for those of you who remember the problems when Geocities allowed free pic storage and crossposting and there were some places where folks were showing pics from there like they were drunken sailors on a spending binge]…and some other items like who will be doing the updating [me and hopefully another party…more on that one later], But the biggest part of this, which was something that has made me very happy is that this was a meeting where we were able to discuss things like adults….have a couple minor disagreements and still be able to talk in a civil fashion and still proceed. YAY……so as of now, we are looking at something in the area of September being when this will be online and taking orders.
What is good about this is that there is enthusiam about this not just from me and the creators of the site, but from others. Amazingly enough, there quite a few people out there who are either building or fixing radios…..ham and otherwise….who want to get vacuum tubes, rheostats etc at prices which are better than let’s say ‘Fry’s’. No offense to ‘Fry’s or their kin, however….it is the prices which are a little on the borderline insane sade, as well as the selection of product. So we have that advantage right now in that for a small shop, even though it is online, we will have a very very large inventory.
Oh yes I did make the offer again to **** to come in on this and be a part of the site creation team on the coding side with me, as well as when this takes off to join in the updating. In no way, shape or form was it meant as a line to her. There is something to be said about sharing the wealth, helping someone with their skillset so it can not just be applied here but on the CV. While I realize that this is a ‘non-traditional TG business’ it is a going to be a traditional business in that one does not need to be ashamed about the product, the price markups [I stressed to the client that there is no reason to do an excessive markup due to the fact it would cheese off future clients] or the fact that the market is not a ‘captive’ one. And for another reason..which has been mentioned before…if it were a traditional business in that regard, I would not be working in it if this, unless it’s markets and goals were of a purient or blatantly stereotypical bent. Not being prejudicial there…just stating a fact….a regretable one about life in this modern world.
So that is it for now…..and I am now looking forward to the days of being camped in behind the PC, having IV’s of Snapple tea or Cranberry Juice/Seltzer Water along with fruit and cheese to snack on with Renaissance, the Moodies, Yes, Pink Floyd and others on the DVD/CD player and the cats playing or sleeping in the background. Granted, working from home for some may seem to be a paradise…and what I mentioned in the last sentence may give that impression, but it is still work. There are still deadlines, meetings, agreements and disagreements…this is the nature of things. But the payoff for this, as I have mentioned to **** is going to be tremendous.
And now it is time to close this til next time. From the land of the colourtini….enjoy the words as the pics fly through the air.
